On the afternoon of August 24, 2022, Ma Xiang, the representative of the Export-Import Bank of China in Sri Lanka, and his delegation went to the Central Sri Lanka Expressway Package 1 Project (CEP-1) contracted by China MCC for post-loan inspection. Meanwhile, Dong Xiakun, Secretary of the Economic and Commercial Counselor Office of the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, and Zeng Nanhai, representative of the president unit of the Chinese Enterprises Chamber in Sri Lanka, conducted safety inspections on the site.

Representative Ma Xiang and his delegation first inspected along the CEP-1 project and learned the site construction progress and safety situation in detail, and then listened to the special report by Cui Songming, the project manager, in the meeting room of the CEP-1 Project Department. Cui Songming expressed his heartfelt thanks to the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka, the Export-Import Bank of China and the Chinese Enterprises Chamber for their strong support, and made detailed report on the ongoing situation in Sri Lanka, project overview and current progress, major risks exposed and response measures, staffing conditions, COVID-19 prevention and control and security work.

At the meeting, Secretary Dong Xiakun put forward requirements and suggestions to the Project Department in terms of project security, COVID-19 prevention and control; representative Zeng Nanhai shared his experience on the supply channels of diesel oil and explosives and localized employment management; representative Ma Xiang affirmed the progress made by the CEP-1 project, and expected that the Project Department would work with all relevant parties to overcome difficulties and gradually resume the construction on site after conditions got improved.

The said activities were escorted by Zhang Guoqiang, Country Manager of CEXIM Sri Lanka Working Group, Zhang Xiaolei, Deputy General Manager of China MCC Sri Lanka Branch, Gao Long, Head of the Project Management Department, and members of the CEP-1 Project Department.
